In alignment with the Loyola University Chicago Clinical Psychology Program, the CASA Lab is committed to cultivating an inclusive and collaborative environment where the diversity of all identities is celebrated and integrated into our work. Our goal is to ensure lab members are empowered and have an open space to share their unique and valuable perspectives, ideas, and experiences. The team is committed to fostering a diverse learning network by ensuring all aspects of race, ethnicity, documentation status, gender identity, religion, disability status, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation are embraced. With lab members from a variety of cultural backgrounds and identities, we continue to exalt the value of diverse perspectives and voices.
Our research hopes to promote equity by including and prioritizing knowledge of the experiences of underrepresented communities of color, including immigrant and refugee families, in the Chicagoland area. We recognize the disproportionate ways in which stress and trauma impact communities of color and hope our work will contribute to the reduction of these disparities. We aim to be inclusive in our research data collection and analyses by implementing the use of different languages such as Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, and Urdu. Our lab aims to cultivate and integrate cultural humility in our research design, delivery, and interpretation. We strive to collaborate with community partners with the intention of continuing to implement a participatory approach. We welcome individuals with diverse perspectives and experiences to become engaged in our work as we continue to work for equity and racial justice.
CASA Lab Mission Statement
1. Engage in community-based research focused on stress, trauma, resilience, and intervention.
2. Promote equity in research through diverse representation, sustainable and accessible interventions, and application of research to advocacy.
3. Mentor and support the next generation of researchers, mental health providers, and community providers to continue to build a diverse field of scientists and professionals engaged in promoting equity.
